Bassinet or Crib or Something Else?

Bassinet or crib - what is better? Or should you look for another option? No-one will tell you, what you should use, but it is good to know the pros and cons before making a final decision.

Crib

You can choose a traditional wooden crib or one of the modern variations.

The main advantage is the fact, that crib is suitable for more or less two years. Even if it is not cheap, it’s an investment. On the other hand, it means it is big enough for two years old baby. Therefore the baby can feel a little bit lost in it at first. Your newborn baby has just left from your tight and cozy womb… that’s a huge difference!

Bassinet

A bassinet is much cheaper, and the design may be tempting. Also, it is snugger than a big crib. There is more - bassinet is just easy to move - you can use it in one room during naps and due to the small size and light weight, easily place next to your bed in the evening.

Although until six months old it may be just too small for your little one.

Moses basket

Bassinet or crib are not the only options you have! Moses basket is a basket with a mattress inside. It is a similar case to the bassinet - small, movable and looks cute but last for a few months only. If you like the idea, you may think of having the second-hand basket with new mattress.

Baby box

If you don’t like spending a lot of money, but are not comfortable with placing your baby in a crib right away, you should think of a baby box. It’s a Finnish idea, providing safe sleep and nutrition to brain health. The box is cozy enough and even more portable than the bassinet. Although you may not like the design.

Are you still not sure you should choose bassinet or crib? It’s one of the most important decisions you’ll make about nursery furniture. Think about your baby’s comfort more than your bedroom design. But remember, you will end up having crib anyway.
